Why Florida water is so hard
Much of Florida's water comes from limestone aquifers rich in calcium and magnesium. Hardness readings of 10–18 grains per gallon are common — well above the 7 gpg threshold where scale damage accelerates. Without a softener, you'll typically replace a water heater every 5–7 years instead of 12+, and pay more in soap, detergent, and skin-care products.
